Description of Work & Ministry
Rick and Sonya are committed to bringing all the resources of the university (faculty, students, and ideas) to the world for the advance of the loving rule and reign of Jesus Christ. They dream of the day when movements of Christian faculty willingly wrestle with the ever-challenging question: “As Christ-followers, what should we do in the academy?”
Rick has been the Executive Director of Faculty Commons since 2005. Rick has also directed the student ministries of Campus Crusade at Rice University and Duke University. He is a summa cum laude graduate from both Georgia Tech and Trinity Evangelical Divinity School.
Prayer Points
- They ask for prayer that God would raise up faculty groups on new campuses. To see this happen, they need a professor or two who want to pioneer the way at their campus, so pray God provides these individuals – including hopes for groups to be established in Latin America, Japan, & Europe.
- Please ask God to bless Christian faculty, who often feel alone, finding it challenging to follow Christ in academia, especially in this hostile environment. May God give them wisdom, peace, and courage.
- Pray for their family. For strength for Rick & Sonya as they care for Rick’s father and for their growing family, with 1 new grandchild born this year & another on the way. Pray God would bless this tribe, and draw all of them to himself, sending them out to the world to be part of his great works in Durham, and the world.
